Suggestions?

Hi-Every one's projects are looking great! I am having some trouble with mine. Although I did my letters, and some snowflakes and a couple of trees and a house, I am having trouble getting my components to go together. It might be that my house is too dark? I tried making a Santa today and I kinda like him, but maybe he needs to be in his own quilt. I am not sure if he "fits"? Anyway, I guess I am looking for any suggestions anyone may have in how to work this out, maybe I should add something (probably) or maybe just change the colors of my house, I was thinking green and red for Christmas colors, but maybe it just doesn't go with the background I picked. Or maybe my letters are just too big for my house. Well I guess I'll keep it up and keep looking at it and try to figure it out, and if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thanks-

Hi: Maybe you need a little snow on the roof and on the top of the door. I think it looks great, but I think you're right about Santa -- he needs his own quilt. Brenda from Winnipeg

I can see santa just peeking over a chimney in a tall narrow wall hanging! :-)

Like Brenda I wonder if the house would "fit" more with a layer of snow on it?

I rather like the letters/words you've done -- the t at the end of Let has some real character...

your Santa is such a character - I adore him. and your letters and snow and trees all look great.

I have to say, I don't think the house fits the quilt. The rest of the quilt is very graphic and the fabrics are simple. the house introduces new colors and all sorts of textures. And it's very dark, compared to the rest of the quilt. I'd set it aside for a different quilt. It's a good house, just isn't working here.

Try making red and white house on a blue background and see if that works better. or maybe a snowman. or your kissing Santa.

you're doing great, keep at it.

i vote for a snowman to lighten things up and put santa and the house in another maybe up on the rooftop quilt?

I am with Tonya - keep the santa, loose the house. I would also loose red for the letters. Bright blue + red = fourth of July for me... I would go for any other "icy" fabric for the letter (light metallic grey? very intense dark blue?) Then you could say "santa baby".

Lots of quilters, lots of opinions! I thought the house was good - a few new colours, but hey, what's a bit of zing between friends? I thought the Santa merits his own quilt, and I'd square up the other elements into a rectangle and then audition borders. I'm not good at choosing without seeing, but maybe a narrow ice blue and then something else wider? You could always add corner motifs to use some of the house colours and pull it together.
